Romantic Relationships and Self-Esteem - 501 Words

Attachment style could serve as an indicator of other aspects of romantic relationships including intimacy, dating goals, and well-being. It was hypothesized that individuals who associated with having either a secure or dismissive attachment style would also elicit high levels of dating goals as well as intimacy levels and would have higher levels of self-esteem. It was found that attachment style had an effect on self-esteem as well as intimacy levels of individuals. However, interestingly enough, attachment style did not appear to have an effect on dating goals. Individuals who identified as being dismissing-avoidant elicited higher levels of self-esteem than those who identified as being avoidant. It is be to noted that for data analyses looking at attachment style in relation to self-esteem, intimacy, and dating goals the anxious/ambivalent attachment style was excluded due to insufficient numbers. This finding does not fully support the original hypothesis due the secure attachment style not demonstrating to be associated with higher levels of self-esteem, as was predicted. Results also indicated that those who identified as having a secure attachment style elicited higher levels of intimacy than those who identified as being either dismissing-avoidant or avoidant. There was a significant positive correlation between self-esteem and intimacy in support of the previous literature that found relationship maintenance behaviors, in this case measured as intimacy,Show MoreRelatedThe Common Romantic Relationship Relationships1243 Words   |  5 Pagesare involved in a romantic relationship or will be eventually. The Is The Absolute Of Independence - 1054 Words

Around the age of four, I was deposited on the doorstep of Somerset Primary’s Infant Block for my first day in kindergarten. In what can only be described as fate, I found my best friend among that sea of little children. From across the room, our eyes met. At that moment I just knew. Like recognizes like. Her name was Kianna and although neither of us had realized it yet we would be together for the rest of our lives. Through the years, I have been able to compose my own definition of what friendship truly is. It is difficult to describe Kianna in simple terms, like my confidante or comforter. In essence, she is self-sufficient, hard-working, and deeply wise, all traits that have allowed me to establish the type of person I want to be. In fact, she is someone that I cannot help but look up to. I find it admirable that Kianna is the epitome of independence. Primarily, Kianna showcases her independence through being able to take care of herself. Looking back now, I realize that I did not endure the same struggles as the people I grew up with. I have been blessed with parents who are able to provide, and I will never stop being grateful for that. However, not all of my friends were able to say the same, which always served as an appropriate reality check. Kianna was one of those friends. Though she would not outright admit it, several necessities in life were not always accessible to her. I would not have blamed her for complaining about her less-than-perfect situation; IShow MoreRelatedAlexander Hamilton Writes The Farmer Refuted1713 Words   |  7 PagesHamilton continues his use of Blackstone’s writings to discuss the principle aim of society, the absolute rights of individuals, and the origin of all civil government. Sculpture Three Angel Musicians Essay Example For Students

Sculpture Three Angel Musicians Essay For this assignment, I decided to visit the Norton Simon Museum located in Pasadena, California, located only a few miles away from the legendary Rose Bowl stadium. The Norton Simon Museum has plenty of pre-renaissance paintings and figures. One figure/statue that stood out for me was titled Three Angel Musicians. The artist is not specifically stated in this piece but it comes from the Pisan School. This sculpture is made of white marble and stands about 20. 5 inches high for each figure. Each angel musician is seen holding a different instrument. The left angel is seen playing a zither. A zither is an ancient musical device that closely resembles a harp, but the person plucks the strings of the zither when it is positioned horizontally across the person’s body. The center angel is playing a bagpipe, although the features of the bagpipe make it difficult to identify what instrument this is. The right angel is playing on a set of timbrels, which look like miniature drums that are worn across the person’s waist. The Pisan School is named after the Italian city named Pisa, which is probably where this sculpture was made from. The sculpture was located in a room surrounded by various Italian tapestries. The figure is pretty small to see from far away so I took a closer look at the sculpture so I could see the different curves, lines and features of the angels that are present. The great thing about the Norton Simon Museum is that the staff allows patrons to take pictures of paintings or any type of artwork because many students comes to this museum for their art-related papers. The figures in this sculpture look like women, who are probably older in age, possibly around their fifties. They are wearing garments that resemble a toga from Greek culture. The garment goes all the way down toward the ground and it covers their feet so you cannot see them. The facial expression of the angels indicates that they are happy and they are passionate in playing purposeful music for a specific occasion. The marble sculptures have a blend of white and tan colors. The blend is woven throughout the sculpture creating a uniform color as a statue. After doing some research, I found out that the Pisan School is actually the artist of Three Angel Musicians. There is only a minimal amount of information from this artist, but after looking at some different art pieces, it seems that the Pisan School creates paintings and sculptures with a biblical theme. One example is titled Virgin and Child Enthroned with Four Saints. In this piece, the Pisan School shows a picture of a child, who appears to be that of the newborn Christ. Surrounding the child include the Virgin Mary along with 2 female saints and 2 male saints. Without knowing much about the Pisan School, I would hypothesize that the Three Angel Musicians has some type of religious component attached to this piece. After looking at the various features of the marble statue, I would expect these musicians to play at an important event within the Italian culture. For example, these musicians could play for the birth of a new child or the celebration of a certain â€Å"victory† for one of the Italian cities. The facial expressions of the musicians indicated that they are happy individuals that are excited to be in the environment they are in. I would assume that these musicians play an important role in society because the instruments they play are not typically found in everyday society. Bagpipes, a zither and timbrels are all instruments that refer back to ancient times. Possibly, by playing these instruments, the angels are playing an ode to ancient Gods that ruled over these Italian lands centuries ago. Not only does the music of the angels create an aura of peace and tranquility, but their music is used to pay tribute to deities that are present in ancient Italian cultures. .u690e67b22c7431c9db78f18aff4d7ccd , .u690e67b22c7431c9db78f18aff4d7ccd .postImageUrl , .u690e67b22c7431c9db78f18aff4d7ccd .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u690e67b22c7431c9db78f18aff4d7ccd , .u690e67b22c7431c9db78f18aff4d7ccd:hover , .u690e67b22c7431c9db78f18aff4d7ccd:visited , .u690e67b22c7431c9db78f18aff4d7ccd:active { border:0!important; } .u690e67b22c7431c9db78f18aff4d7ccd .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u690e67b22c7431c9db78f18aff4d7ccd { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u690e67b22c7431c9db78f18aff4d7ccd:active , .u690e67b22c7431c9db78f18aff4d7ccd:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u690e67b22c7431c9db78f18aff4d7ccd .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u690e67b22c7431c9db78f18aff4d7ccd .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u690e67b22c7431c9db78f18aff4d7ccd .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u690e67b22c7431c9db78f18aff4d7ccd .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u690e67b22c7431c9db78f18aff4d7ccd:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u690e67b22c7431c9db78f18aff4d7ccd .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u690e67b22c7431c9db78f18aff4d7ccd .u690e67b22c7431c9db78f18aff4d7ccd-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u690e67b22c7431c9db78f18aff4d7ccd:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Egyptian Sculpture Analysis EssayOne distinguishing symbol that I saw form this sculpture is that the angel who is playing the timbrels is missing a right hand. Looking at the timbrels themselves, only one timbrel stick can be seen with the left hand. Even though this angel has this handicap, her facial expressions indicated that she is proud to be playing such music for a special occasion in Italian culture. The hairstyle of the three angels represents a traditional form where women grew their hair out long and they braided only top portions of the hair. The angels feel like they are respected members of society, even though during ancient cultures, women were often characterized as â€Å"beneath men. Playing instruments for special occasions seems like a job that a male would do. However, the Pisan School wants to illustrate that women play an important role specifically with this Italian culture. This marble sculpture hopes to illustrate the importance of women in society and that they can handle important roles that historically might be given to a male individual. Women play an integral role in ancient societies and this sculpture illustrates this point very well.
